Do you know why your HVAC system comes with an air filter? How about where the air filter is located? Chances are that you’ve never given either of these factors much thought. However just because your air filter is out of sight doesn’t mean it should be out of your mind. The air filter is designed to protect the inside components of your HVAC system, and as a result should be changed or cleaned on a regular basis.
The general rule for changing or cleaning your air filter—a task that can and should be done on your own—is every three months for normal conditions. If you have excessive contaminants in your home, such as pet dander or cigarette smoke, then you may want to perform this task more often.
