Energy Recovery Ventilators

Energy Recovery Ventilators in Orlando, FL by Florala

When the days get too hot or too cold for comfort in Florida (or anywhere else, really) people will often close all of their windows and turn on either an air conditioner or a heater. This is all well and good in the short term. However, spending several hours in a sealed home with a forced air system running tends to cause the air to go stale. The typical method for bringing fresh air into the home is simply to open windows. However, that would mean defeating the entire purpose of turning on your climate control systems in the first place. The answer to this conundrum is the energy recovery ventilator, or ERV.

If you have a hard time getting fresh air into your home, call Florala and ask about our ERV services.

What Is an Energy Recovery Ventilator?

An energy recovery ventilator consists of its own ductwork, running from outside the house into the preexisting duct network. In that ductwork is a desiccant wheel, through which air passes in both directions. As air flows through the desiccant wheel, the moisture and heat it carries is absorbed by the wheel. The wheel then rotates through a section of the ventilator that exposes it to heat in order to release the moisture outside of the system. As the air flows into the home, it mixes with the air already in the ducts and equalizes its temperature.

The Benefits of ERV’s

An energy recovery ventilator is ideal for environments like Florida, where the air can get unbearably humid. You don’t want to turn your home into a swamp by opening up a window on a hot and humid day, but with an ERV you get to still get a fresh air flow while maintaining climate control.

This works just as well during the colder months. Sure, we may not experience the bitter winters that other parts of the country do, but that doesn’t mean we want to open a window and let all of the heat out during the cold months. If you have an ERV installed in your home, you don’t have to worry about freezing just because you want some fresh air during the winter.

Call Us for Your Energy Recovery Ventilator Needs in Orlando, FL

As beneficial as energy recovery ventilators are, they are also quite difficult to install if you don’t know what you’re doing. You need to not only rearrange parts of the ducts, but you have to run the extra ducts out of the side of the house and splice the actual ventilator into the home’s electrical grid. This is not a do–it–yourself project. So, if you need an energy recover ventilator installed or serviced, call Florala today. We install and service energy recovery ventilator systems throughout Orlando, FL. Don’t deprive yourself of fresh air just because of temperature or humidity concerns. We’ll make sure that you remain as comfortable as possible, while still getting the air flow you need.
